Some insane travel news โœˆ๏ธ

Hey Reader,

If you haven't heard yet, as of May 2, Spirit Airlines announced that they are ceasing operations effective immediately.

While some loved to bash Spirit - "oh I would never fly with them" - the low cost carrier offered a true low cost flight option to get from point A to point B. They're only one of few low cost carriers providing some form of price competition against the big guys (Delta, United, American, etc.). And without that competition, it might mean budget options on larger airlines are going to increase in price.

But you guys, I am geeking out over this viral phenomenon that looks like it might actually go somewhere ๐Ÿ‘€

Led by Hunter Peterson, who's self proclaimed "kind of autistic and really likes airplanes," people are coming together to pledge to create and fund a new community-owned airline - Spirit 2.0. This would mean the airline is owned by and for the people and NOT by some out of touch billionaire.

After receiving over $88M in pledges within less than 2 days ๐Ÿคฏ the website crashed and as I write this they're getting ready to re-launch.

Honestly this story is just WILD and I can't wait to see how it plays out.

What do you think - would you pledge the minimum $45 (the price of one ticket on Spirit Airlines) to be a part of this movement?

Talk soon,

Michelle
