Travel affected by partial government shutdown

Hey Reader,

I miss when we could go days, weeks, or months without some wild news about the POTUS or government... but if you're traveling anytime soon, you'll definitely want to keep reading.

The Department of Homeland security is suspending the Global Entry program during the partial government shutdown.

So what does this mean?

Travelers flying back to the U.S. from abroad will likely have to use the regular customs lanes instead of the speedy biometric kiosks. This means longer lines, potential missed connections, and plenty of inconvenience.

We don't know how long this is going to last, but hopefully it's overturned quickly. Considering Global Entry users have already paid for this service,

What about TSA PreCheck?

The Trump administration had announced also halting TSA PreCheck along with Global Entry, but has since rescinded that decision based on the amount of backlash received. However, it's wholly possible that TSA PreCheck is also temporarily shut down depending how long the government shutdown lasts.

All in all, if you're flying anytime soon, be sure you allow extra time to get through the airport and check ahead of time what the status of these programs is.

Oh, and if you haven't hear yet, violence is erupting across Mexico. As such a popular tourist destination, especially this time of year for Americans, here's what you need to know about potential travel there.

Sorry this one was sort of a downer... Next week will be some good news, I promise!

Talk soon,

Michelle
